Announcements July- Literacy Month

 

Nuestros Niņos Immunization Fair

 

Thank you for all who participated in Nuestros Niņos immunization fair with the Regional Center for Border Health this July. It has been estimated about 400 hundred immunizations were given during these clinics. Thank you Past President, Jennifer and Past Treasurer, Emma for all your work on this project!

 

Yuma Crossing Foreign Exchange Student to Japan

 

Thank you Matt for a great presentation you gave last week and for all who was not able to make it you missed a good program. Matt will be leaving us in August for his foreign exchange year trip. He will be wearing his jacket Thursday so we can pictures with us before he leave.

 

 

RYLA-January 12 - 15

 

RYLA is a 4-day leadership workshop that is going to be held January 12-155 at Fort Huachuca. This workshop is for high school freshmen to junior, 14-17 years of age. If you know of kids that would be a good candidate, please contact President Chris for more information and application. Please note the change of date for this workshop. The workshop was bumped because the National Guards needed it that weekend.

 

District 5500 Exchange to District 4970 (central Uruguay).

                               

            This exchange is a bilingual exchange and applicants both Inbound and Outbound must be able to speak both English and Spanish.

               

            The Inbound Team will be arriving Saturday, September 23rd and will be in our District until             October 24th.  As of July 19th, District 4970 has selected their Team Leader . . .  Daniel Pagliano, PP of Rotary Club of Montevideo.  He is an agronomist.  The Team Members should be selected soon. 

               

            Our Outbound Team will be departing early May 2007 and will be there for a little over four weeks.

            Requirements for Team Members can be found on the same website.  Application             deadline is August 28th.  The Team Member Co-chair is DickRoberts.

            Once the team has been selected there are many duties that the Team Leader

            will be responsible for.

 

·        Building a team of individuals who will represent Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation.

·        Becoming familiar with policies and procedures related to GSE

·        Biographical Data Form

·        Working with the GSE Chair and in assisting team members in completing their forms, making sure that each member has a valid passport, visas, immunizations, etc.

 

Once our team members have been selected, they will have approximately 7 months to get ready for the exchange to Uruguay.  

 

GSE can be an exciting experience for a Rotarian selected as Team Leader and young professionals selected as Team Members.  GSE is not a vacation!

               

The exchange is 4 to 6 weeks long and can be both physically and mentally demanding.  Sample of a four-week exchange includes:

                        2 days flight/jet-lag5 full days of Vocational visits

                        15-20 Club presentations

                        2-3 social events

                        2-3 days District Conference

                        2-4 hours per day – cultural and site tours

                        3-4 hours per day – interaction time with host families

                        2 half days per week (4 days) Rest time

                        6 hours per night (if lucky) Sleep Time

                        Total length of trip – 28 days.   

Is it worth it .. you bet!  Ask anyone that has participated on an exchange team.

August-Membership/Extension Month

 

In the Month of August Mike Lundy will have the assignment to get the Guest Speaker and the Greeter for the month will Thelma Jeanette. In the month of September Carma Lawson will have the Guest Speakers and Jaime Hernandez will be the Greeter. 

 

Yuma Scorpions Fundraiser

 

In the month of August will be selling beer at the Yuma Scorpion Games for a fundraiser. I do need a few more people to work. I will have a sign up sheet. The dates we are set to work are: Monday, August 21st from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, Tuesday, August 22nd from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, Wednesday, August 23rd from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, and Monday August 28th from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

District 5500 District Conference-Chart the Course

 

The District conference will be October 20-22 at the Holiday Inn Pal Verde in Tucson. You can register online at the District 5500 website: www.rotaryd5500.org. It sounds like a good time and a time to learn about Rotary and meet other Rotarians.

 

Wine and Cheese Tasting and Silent Auction

 

The Wine and Cheese tasting will be in October 16th to benefit Nuestros Niņos immunization fair with The Regional Center for Border Health. Emma need some help this year. She is starting a committee for this event please contact Emma at 782-2697 or e-mail at rshively@cybertrail.com.

 

Yuma Crossing Dinner Dance

 

The Dinner Dance will be Saturday, December 2nd at Sonora Club at Marine Corps Air Station at 6:30 pm.

 

Christmas Party and Ornament Auction

 

Christmas Party will be December 9th.
